"1821" Greek War of Independence - The 200th anniversary
2021 is the year marked as the 200th anniversary of the "1821" Greek War of Indepedence, a successful war waged by the Greeks to win independence for Greece from the Ottoman Empire of 400years rule.
The Greeks were the first of the subject peoples of the Ottoman Empire to secure recognition as a sovereign power. Independence was finally granted by the Treaty of Constantinople in July 1832 when Greece (Hellas) was recognized as a free country, and since then Greeks celebrate their independence day annually on March 25.
The "1821" silk collection is a celebration to the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence. Featuring key revolutionary personalities such as Laskarina Bouboulina, the first woman to be awarded the rank of Admiral for her war naval services, Greek General Theodoros Kolokotronis and pre-eminent leader of the Greek War, Yannis Makriyiannis, military officer, politician and author, best known for his Memoirs, as well as important features and parts of the war equipment the fighters used.
