The palmette is a characteristic motif in classical greek decorative art and architecture. It resembles the fan-shaped leaves of a palm tree and it represented death, life or divinity.
The neoclassical greek architecture includes tall majestic buildings with clean surfaces and linear decorations. With the establishment of the Greek state at the late 18th, settlements began to grow and those who had traveled, such as merchants and ship owners, began to build neoclassical homes on the islands.
